Engage The Media
After you’ve written your MP, it’s time to contact the media
Write letters to the editor or Op-Eds asking for a nationwide discussion and parliamentary debate on Canada’s role in Afghanistan.
Keep letters to under 200 words and stay on topic to have a better chance of being published.
Remember to sign off as a CASC member. Send us copies of your published contributions and we’ll post them on the CASC website.
In your letter to the editor or Op-Ed, focus on one or all of the following points:
-
You want to see a debate in parliament about extending the robust and effective participation of Canada in support of Afghanistan past 2011.
-
Don’t let Canada abandon Afghanistan at this critical time. We have sacrificed much in Afghanistan. Will that sacrifice be in vain?
-
International intervention in Afghanistan can help end the violence of all illegal armed groups, alleviate poverty, and support Afghans’ struggles for peace, justice, and stability.
-
The United Nations wants Canada involved in Afghanistan.
-
Human rights are universal, and not culture-specific. We are listening to the demands of Afghans for human rights, the protection of women’s fledgling rights, and the desire for a democratic system of governance.
